How To Make This Recipe
This delicious sauce is very simple and easy to make, just with 2 ingredients and you are good to go. Raspberry sauce is made with sugar and raspberries. You can use either frozen raspberries or fresh raspberries for this recipe.
Just chuck your berries and sugar into a small, heavy-bottomed pot and cook it over low heat, stirring occasionally to make sure it does not get burnt.
It won’t take so long before the juices start to run and things start to look juicy. Allow the sauce to simmer for about 10 minutes, not too thin, not too thick.
Then pour your mixture into a fine-mesh strainer, into a heat-safe bowl. Discard the seeds and keep the fruity, delicious puree. You can only go through this process if you like your raspberry sauce smooth.
What To Serve With Raspberry Sauce
Raspberry sauce can be topped on many different things and it makes them taste more delicious. Some of my favorite way I use raspberry sauce are:
- On fresh toast
- Ice cream
It is also used with anything lemon from limoncello lemon, yogurt cake, to fresh grandmother’s lemon.
It can be served with fresh fruits, goes well with pineapple, bananas, strawberries, fresh peaches, melon, etc
You can drizzle this yummy raspberry sauce over a dessert or, for something different, serve on a pool of delicious raspberry sauce.
One of my favorite way to use raspberry sauce is to use this raspberry coulis paired with incredibly moist Swedish sticky chocolate cake trust me this one is a mad combo that makes me want more.
This recipe is fabulous on its own but you can also add a splash of Chambord, framboise, or Grand Marnier to make give it more flavor.
Is Raspberry Sauce Gluten-Free?
Raspberry sauce is gluten-free, with no other ingredients apart from raspberry and sugar. So anyone can enjoy it.
How Can I Thicken My Raspberry Sauce?
To thicken the raspberry sauce, you don’t need to add anything additional to it to make it thicker. After 10 minutes of heat, this sauce will get thicker on its own.
But if you cook for 10 minutes and it is still runny, don’t worry, just allow it to simmer a little longer and reduce the heat. It will get thick.
As it gets cold it will become thicker, so chill and check the consistency when cool before you put it back on the heat.
How To Store The Raspberry Sauce
Raspberry sauce can be stored in the fridge for about two weeks, saved in a small jar or airtight container inside the fridge. It can be frozen in an airtight container for about six to eight months till when ready to use.
Should I Use Fresh or Frozen Raspberry in My Recipe?
Yes, you can use either of them, but I love using frozen better. The color might not be pretty as fresh but if you use fresh, you may need to add a tablespoon more liquid when pureeing.
What is in Raspberry Sauce?
Raspberry sauce is made up of raspberries, sugar, and water.
- 1/3 cup of granulated sugar
- 2 cups raspberries, frozen or fresh
Method of Preparation
Step 1: Firstly, in a small pot, place your raspberries and sugar to cook over low heat for about 10 minutes, or until it gets syrupy and fruity.
Step 2: When your raspberries begin to release their juices, smash them with your spoon or spatula to make the juice come out more.
Step 3: Allow your raspberries to continue cooking and boil over medium heat for about 10 minutes.
Step 4: Look for it to have it thicken, have it in mind that raspberry thickens more when it’s cool. The longer you cook the thicker it will be. If it gets too thick, you can add a touch of water to your desired consistency.
Step 5: When your sauce gets thick to your desired consistency, remove from heat and pour it into a food processor. Puree it until it gets smooth.
Step 6: Strain the sauce through a fine sieve and then allow it to cool before serving.
