Authentic Mexican Salsa Spicy

Authentic Mexican Salsa Spicy

Capturing the essence of true Mexican cuisine, this Authentic Mexican Spicy Salsa recipe is a vibrant blend of fresh ingredients and fiery chilies. Perfect for dolloping on tacos, drizzling over grilled meats, or simply enjoying with tortilla chips, this salsa adds a kick of flavor to any dish.

Ingredients:

  • 4 large ripe tomatoes
  • 2-3 serrano or jalapeño peppers (adjust based on your heat preference)
  • 1/2 large white onion
  • 3 cloves of garlic
  • 1/2 cup fresh cilantro leaves
  • Juice of 1 lime
  • Salt to taste

Optional for added depth:

  • 1 teaspoon of apple cider vinegar
  • A pinch of ground cumin

Instructions:

Prepare the Ingredients:

  1. Char the Vegetables: Preheat your grill or broiler to high. Place whole tomatoes, whole peppers, onion (cut side down), and garlic cloves on the grill or a baking sheet under the broiler. Char them, turning occasionally, until they have a nice blackened skin. This should take about 10-15 minutes.
  2. Cool and Peel: Allow the charred vegetables to cool slightly. Then, peel the garlic, and if you prefer a smoother salsa, you can also peel the tomatoes. Remove the stems from the peppers. If you want less heat, remove the seeds and veins from the peppers as well.

Blend the Salsa:

  1. Blend: In a blender or food processor, combine the charred tomatoes, peppers, onion, and garlic. Pulse a few times to break down the ingredients before adding the fresh cilantro, lime juice, salt, and optional apple cider vinegar and cumin. Blend until your desired consistency is reached. For a chunkier salsa, pulse fewer times.

Season and Serve:

  1. Taste and Adjust: Taste the salsa and adjust the seasoning with additional salt or lime juice if necessary. If the salsa is too thick, you can add a small amount of water to reach your preferred consistency.
  2. Chill: For best flavor, let the salsa sit in the refrigerator for at least an hour to allow the flavors to meld together.

Serving Suggestions:

  • Serve with tortilla chips as a classic snack.
  • Use as a topping for tacos, nachos, burritos, or enchiladas.
  • Add to grilled chicken or steak for an extra burst of flavor.

Tips for Perfect Salsa:

  • Roasting Method: Both grilling and broiling impart a smoky flavor to the salsa. Choose the method that’s most convenient for you.
  • Heat Level: Adjust the number of serranos or jalapeños to control the spice level. Remember, the seeds add heat, so include or remove them based on your preference.
  • Storage: This salsa can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to a week.
