Frequently Asked Questions

Should My Green Beans be Crunchy or Be Soft?

Not everyone loves their beans to be soft, I will say it depends on your choice. Some people prefer their beans cooked until almost soft, but retaining a crispness and their bright green color while some prefer it very soft stage, as the beans turn from bright green to a darker green. So it depends on what you want.

How To Prepare Green Beans

Some green beans are stringless but If your green beans have strings, just cut off the tip with your knife then pull it back to remove the string. But if you don’t have time, you can buy bags of green beans at most grocery stores to save little time.

How Do I Cook Fresh Green Beans?

Fresh beans can be roasted, sautéed, or steamed. I prefer the sautéed green beans more. Sautéed green beans will always end up getting blistered in a few spots, they have lots of flavors.

To cook your green beans heat your pan over high heat then add the green beans and some oil at s time then cook for about 5 minutes, and your green beans will be ready by then.

What Ingredients Can I Use to Season my Green Beans?

To season your green beans and make them spicier, once your green beans are cooked you can toss them with:

  • Some crispy bacon
  • A squeeze of lemon juice
  • A little blue cheese
  • Chili flakes or sriracha for some heat
  • A sprinkle of parmesan cheese
  • Toasted sliced almonds

Recipe Tips

  1. Sauteing: When you are sauteing make sure to use medium heat to cook if not the beans will blacken on the outside and stay too firm on the inside which isn’t good.
  2. Season to taste: You can add extra spice to your sautéed beans but if you want to go normal just season with some lemon juice, butter, and mustard.
  3. Trimming your green beans: You can use kitchen shears to trim your beans, this method works faster and easier.
  4. Cutting size: Feel free to cut your green beans into your desired size, but I like mine whole because I enjoy it more like that.

Ingredients

  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 1/2 tablespoon lemon juice, optional
  • 1 pound fresh green beans, trimmed or  frozen not defrosted
  • 2 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon oil
  • 1 teaspoon mustard
  • salt and pepper, to taste

Method of Preparation

Step 1: Firstly, branch your beans using a large saucepan of water, boil your green beans with 1 teaspoon of salt. Cook for about 4 minutes and they will turn bright green, then drain the water and rinse under cold tap water to cool.

Step 2: To saute, heat your oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Then add green beans and garlic. Toss for 2 minutes until the garlic is golden and crispy, then add your salt and pepper to taste.

Step 3: To serve, transfer beans to the serving dish and serve warm.
