Method of Preparation For Blackened Chicken

Step 1: Firstly, preheat your oven to 200c/4oo degrees F

Step 2: Then in a large bowl, mix together all your thyme, onion powder, paprika, garlic powder, black pepper, white pepper, cayenne, oregano, and  salt,

Step 3: Brush or spray your chicken with vegetable oil on both sides. Toss your chicken in your mixed spices, making sure that each fillet is evenly coated with the blackened spices.

Step 4: Over high heat, heat your large heavy-based frying pan over high heat until very hot. Then add your oil and fry your chicken fillets turning over each side to blacken. Cook 30 seconds on each side.

Step 5: Sear and roast the spices very well, don’t add too many spices at once or you might not get the desired test.

Step 6: After that place your seared chicken on a roasting tray and bake in preheated oven for about 10 -12 minutes. Your chicken is then ready to be served when they are no longer pink in the center when juices run clear when pierced with a fork.

  • You can use chicken breast instead of thighs. It will still come out juicy and delicious.
  • It is best to use a watch or thermometer to check when the chicken is done.
  • If your chicken breast is larger than 8OZ each, they will need more time in the oven. Approximately 15minutes. To prevent burning, cover the pan with foil to prevent their tops from burning.
  • Preheat the pan just until the oil begins to smoke. Add your chicken and sear in the blackened spices then cook until the chicken is cooked through and browned.
